I read a recent Facebook post by a colleague of mine who observed that “… so much of what I really know and understand has come from (the) empathy of experiencing it through theatre.”
I thought about a performance of Fun Home I saw in New York in June; not the first time a live performance of a play or musical has struck a chord with me, but it is the most recent.
It got me thinking about a quote I used to share with my students that theater is the “… most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being” (Oscar Wilde).
Mark Spina, artistic director at The Theater Project, noted that the play explores “underemployment, income inequality, and the need for living wages.”
Theater does help us to know and understand.
How has it helped you?
